Happy May Day. Rampant inequality, stagnant wages growth, war and nationalism, ecological crisis. Now more than ever, to the barricades.
An intriguing little book, which I must get my hands on, has recently been published by Harvard University Press entitled
It would appear that North Korea has launched another KN-17, and it appears to be another failure. The KN-17 is a new missile, based on the Scud-ER/Nodong, and was first seen at the recent Kim il-Sung birthday parade, and was flight tested for the first time promptly thereafter. I’ve gotta […]
Recently the question of low yield nuclear weapons made a bit of a splash, as it has done from time to time from the 90s on to today. Analysts, in my view, are too fixated on the question of nuclear yield. Yes, this is important, but not enough emphasis is […]
One of the hazards of intellectual life, which unfortunately can influence policy in deleterious ways, is the construction of logical edifices upon the basis of false axioms or assumptions. The most glaring example of which is neoclassical economic theory, an impressive logical construction based on the most dubious of assumptions […]
North Korea has attempted to test a missile, near a submarine base at Sinpo, a day after its blockbuster military parade to mark the birthday of Kim Il-sung. We do not know what missile that was, but comments from US officials suggest to us that it was *not* an ICBM […]

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. Watching this live was soooooooooo worth it!!!!! Update The North Koreans gave us a smorgasbord. We saw the Pukguksong-2 (KN-15) MRBM, the Musudan MRBM and the KN-08 IRBM and then the beast depicted above *and* a Topol like TEL. No sixth nuclear test, at least not yet.
One of the most read popular accounts of nuclear weapons is Robert Jungk’s “brighter than a thousand suns” and the image of the sun still resonates when we think of nuclear weapons especially those that incorporate thermonuclear reactions. Kim Il Sung’s birthday, on April 15, in North Korea is known […]
Pretty simple, really. I write to express solidarity with the protesters, largely the young, in Belgrade. I so wish I was there. The same grievances that brought the young to Tahrir Square and Zuccotti Park now brings them to the streets of Belgrade. This is an autonomous, not organised by […]
